Students imagine Life on the Planet Zork

Fourth grade students involved in the Potomac Valley Audubon Society’s Watershed Education Initiative (Project FLOW) have been spending some of their time writing in their watershed journals.  The students are given a writing prompt and then their imaginations take over!  One of the first assignments was “If I lived on the Planet Zork where water floats…”  Here are some of their answers!

“If I lived on the planet Zork where water floated I could swim to the mall.  I would float to the top of Zork.  You could not go down a water slide because, you would stick to the slide.  It would be hard to sleep when you are soaked.  You couldn’t sit on a seat.  It would be very hard to eat cereal and soup.  You could not start a fire.  And, last of all there would be no point in inventing a water fountain or a cup.”   (Raeann, 4th grade, Tomahawk Intermediate School).

“If I lived on planet Zork where water floated I could walk under water, and I could jump up into water instead of jumping up and then having to come back down to hit the water.  Water slides would always be dry because the water would float up.  You could jump into a floating water bubble and it could carry you to the mall, and you could go to outer space in a water bubble too.  It would be hard to eat soup because soup has water in it.  Also, it would never rain, and you cold drink water when ever you want so there would be no point in having a water fountain or cups.  We would not have to learn the water cycle in school.  There would also be no point in having fishing poles.  (Madelynne, 4th grade, Tomahawk Intermediate School)

Other topics this fall have been, “If I were a tree…” and “My favorite  weather is…”  As the year continues, we’ll share more of the students ideas!

I would love being transported by a water bubble and swim to get the mail. These are creative stories and help me realize the importance of gravity in our world. :) Thanks for sharing your stories.

I wonder what would happen when the water freezes? Those are cool stories.

After reading this, I have decided that I would love to live on Zork! I might need a waterproof computer, however!
